Happy belated birthday to the other main male in my life

My precious blue heeler cuddle-buddy companion, Turner, turned three over the weekend.

I celebrated the other main male in my life's birthday back in April.
So, of course I couldn't do anything less for my faithful canine friend.

Turner got a weekend of playing with two of his best puppy friends, Toby and Meka...two chihuahuas that I regularly dogsit for when my friend is out of town. He also got a huge pork-flavored rawhide and some quality time with his other doggie pals out at the horse barn. He even got his own "birthday bath" (which I'm sure he enjoyed....not).

For those of you that don't know the story of Turner, let me fill you in.

First off, I've always had a thing for herding dogs...herding dogs and horses just go hand-in-hand, period. During my lifetime I've had a German Shepherd, a couple of wonderful herding mutts, and an Australian Shepherd before I got Turner, a Queensland Blue Heeler mix.

When I found Turner I was in my mid-twenties. I had finally decided to slow down on the social lifestyle, become a little more of a homebody, and move to a larger townhouse. I was also in the habit of horseback riding 4 or 5 days a week, so I knew that if I got a dog it would get plenty of exercise time and enough "me" time to fit into my life just perfectly.

So, the search began. I have always been an advocate for canine foster groups and rescue dogs, so I started searching for a cattle dog that needed a new home. And I found one! A no-kill foster group in Tucson, Arizona called Cold Wet Noses had picked up an abandoned 6-month-old blue heeler pup from the Humane Society. So, poor Turner had a rough life to begin with...stranded on the desert streets, on to the shelter, and then to the loving foster caregiver who I was lucky enough to meet with. But he was just so adorable, as soon as I saw the photo of him, I just knew he would be a perfect addition!

How can you say "no" to a face like this?

Some fun facts about this little angel:

1.) I have no idea when his actual birthday is, but we knew he was about 6 months when I got him, so August 1st seemed like a logical choice. He needed a special day no matter what!
2.) His favorite treat....PEANUT BUTTER!
3.) His left eye is part blue/part brown.
4.) He's traveled all over with me...Phoenix to Seattle, back down to Phoenix and back up to Seattle! He's such a trooper!
5.) He doesn't like boys, really...and is super protective of his momma.
6.) He's REALLY REALLY good at playing fetch. It's startling how good he is.
7.) He thinks he's a person. He sleeps on my bed with his head on the adjacent pillow most of the time.
8.) Turner is at least the 3rd name he has had. The humane society called him Rusty, and the foster group called him Rocket...I wasn't a fan of either!
9.) Turner's namesake is Josh Turner (the country singer) as he was who I was listening to when I first picked him up from Tucson.

And the last but not least important fact....he's damn SMART:

Happy Belated Birthday to my crazy boy!

Song of the day: "Firecracker" Josh Turner
