Shit I would never do, but enjoy reading about

I'm an outdoorsy sort of person. I enjoy hiking, ALOT, and camping, and I love animals....and nature....well, you get the idea.

But I'm not an EXTREME outdoorsy person. I'm not out summit-ting Rainier or any crazy shit like that. I think it's cool...it's just a bit much for this woman.

I absolutely LOVE reading about crazy bat shit expeditions though. It's all about feeding my imagination I suppose.

Yesterday I just finished reading K2: Life and Death on the World's Most Dangerous Mountain by Ed Viesturs and David Roberts.

And if you don't know what K2 is...well, I'll give you the short version: It's the second highest mountain in the world, after Everest, but is apparently much more dangerous to climb, and has the second highest fatality rate for those who have climbed it (highest fatality rate belongs to Annapurna).

Looks like a beast to me.

And if you're looking for a pop culture reference to K2, Ed Viesturs played himself in the well-known film Vertical Limit, starring Chris O'Donnell and Robin Tunney.

Another kick ass Viesturs fact...he lives right across the Sound here, on Bainbridge Island. (Duh...didn't you know that all kick ass people live here in the Pac Northwest?)

But to get to the point, the book was a really good read. He covered so many different triumps and tragedies from various expeditions to K2, referencing many climbers' own takes on the Savage Mountain. If you're into adventure, read it. It give you a new sense of appreciation for these folks and their aspirations.

Song of the day: "We Used To Wait" Arcade Fire (cause The Suburbs rocks)
