A tale of misfits

Purchased for $2.50 at the local used bookstore: The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers.

Worth every penny.

The first I ever heard of this book was actually from one of my favorite movies, A Love Song For Bobby Long. The movie has tons of literary references, and this book plays a part all it's own.

The book is entirely about misfits and outcasts...how their lives intertwine, how they get past the obstacles in their lives (or don't). And the author does a tremendous job of putting you in their environment...the language, the descriptions, the time period...all pretty amazing, considering McCullers was only 23 years old when it was written.

I mean come on, TIME magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005. How can you say no to that?

Best $2.50 I've ever spent....on a book :).
