I'm a GDI

As most of you know...the acronym GDI stands for "God Damn Independent" and is commonly applied to someone that is NOT a member of a sorority or fraternity.

Right now I'm in the process of reading Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities by Alexandra Robbins.

I'm almost halfway through it, and I can honestly say that none of what is written in it surprises me in the least. Contrary to what you might think, the book isn't all horror stories and drama...well, most of it is, but as a girl it's very easy to identify with the situations that these girls find themselves in from time-to-time.

It's VERY hard to believe, but I actually did think about rushing when I was at Purdue. CLEARLY, I thought again.

I was a legacy to Alpha Chi Omega (meaning my sister was an Alpha Chi), so I had that in my favor. I weighed the pros and cons, but decided that it was hard enough living with the drama of just one or two other girls, let alone 50 others, as is usually the case at Purdue, since most of the sororities are of a fairly decent size. I opted to stick with my independent status, and I can't lie, it served me well =).

I was friends with a few sorority girls, but for the most part I usually didn't ask them much about what went on within their house. We would just hang out when they had the time. All I did know for sure was that they rarely had any free time between functions and meetings and pledging and yadda yadda yadda. All in all, sounds like a lot of time and a lot of money (and a lot of bitches). (AND A LOT OF ALCOHOL, RIGHT?)

Song of the day: "Where The Party At?" Jagged Edge (definitely danced to this at a few frat parties in my day)
