Sometimes, you just need to "get outta Dodge"

My Thanksgiving kinda sucked this year.

It was the first time I didn't have a "family-style" Turkey Day in quite some time. I had dinner with my roommate and his girlfriend, who flew in from out of town. We had some interesting new dishes, that's for sure. And my roommate melted the plastic and metal coating off of one of my cooking pot lids (and our apartment still smells faintly of it)...coincidentally, my mother got me all my pots and pans as a gift, but they look all beat to hell now...hmmmm. But hey....shit happens, right?

I think that was about the point where I started hitting the mimosas, then proceeded to kick up my heels on the coffee table, watch tv, and just say to myself, "Oh, fuck it."

Now, don't get me wrong...my roommate and his girlfriend are good folks, very nice...it's just not so much fun hanging out with a couple on Thanksgiving, especially when the guy you're dating left a couple days earlier to go to the other side of the country for a significant period of time. And my apartment just isn't meant for three people. Two is doable, for sure, but I think you all know if I could afford to live alone, I certainly would.

But the main issue was just a tad bit of anxiety on my part. So, I took steps to get past it:

1.) Planned a fun Friday night out with friends to ZigZag Cafe and Kell's downtown. Ended up being crazy...looked a little something like this:

That definitely helped for a little while, but the next day I just couldn't sit around and be lazy in my apartment for another minute. So, onto....

2.) Skip town. Even though I can be "type-A" sometimes, I still think I'm a bit of an independent free spirit, if you will. I get antsy if I'm in the city for too long, being a country girl and all. So, I packed up some clothes, packed up the dog, hopped in the Tahoe and decided it was time to head off to Port Angeles for the night. All I was looking for was peace and quiet, a beautiful landscape, and some decent shopping. Needless to say, I completely found what I was looking for.

I came back refreshed. It reminded me of the little random trips I used to take in Arizona to Jerome and Flagstaff, just to get the hell outta Phoenix for awhile.

On a side note...I found the cutest silver Christmas trees in Port Angeles that I will be decorating this week. (Finally getting out of my Scrooge stage.) I have a 3-foot one in my apartment, and a 1-foot one on my desk at work. Photos will be forthcoming after I get them completely finished. Wish me luck!
