I'm really glad I'm not a religious person. And this is going to sound very selfish, but what the hell...
Prior to the approach to Easter, I always hear about people giving up things for Lent. I've never had to do this, EVER, because:
1.) I'm not Catholic
2.) I'm basically somewhere in transition between an Agnostic and an Atheist at this point, I think
Regarding #2, for those of you that are curious, I believe in science. I believe that rule that states energy cannot be created nor destroyed, meaning that when we die our energy is transformed into air and earth, etc. and continues the functional cycle of life, ecosystems, and so forth. Now, maybe I made that up, but I'm sure there is some sort of "group" for people who believe the same sort of thing, which goes even further to show that I just don't give a shit, because I don't even know what the name of that "group" would be! Ha! And the reason I say I'm somewhere between Agnostic and Atheist is that there are certain moments that seem a little too coincidental at times...maybe there is some higher earth force that I don't understand yet, who knows!
Anyway, enough of that tangent, what I was really heading toward with this conversation is that I would find it very hard to give up anything worth while for something like Lent (if I believed in that sort of thing) because I'm just too weak to hold up against temptation for the things I love. I mean, there are some things that I just can't get enough of, and certainly don't think I could vow to give them up for such an amount of time.
Some things on the list:
1.) Peanut butter. I even like it on my cheeseburgers, it's so damn good (if you're an old pal from Purdue, reference Triple X's Duane Purvis burger...it's the bees nees.)
2.) The internet. Where would we be without it? (I'd be without a job...that's where.)
3.) Sleeping in. I love my cuddly covers.
4.) Caffeine. (Good thing I'm not Mormon.)
5.) Alcohol. (Maybe I AM a little Catholic?)
6.) Indie music. Enough said.
7.) Horseback riding. It is the balance that keeps me sane in this crazy world.
8.) My automobile. Gets me out to said sanity referenced in #7.
9.) Swearing. I'm a passionate person...shit slips sometimes. (Pun intended, and post coming soon regarding my use of curse words.)
10.) Texting. The only people I talk to on the phone are my parents...and I hate small talk. This makes it easier to get to the point.
I could probably keep going, but ten seems like a solid number. As a disclaimer, please note that while I mention other religions in this post, I hold nothing against people that are religious...to each their own, whatever makes you happy is fine by me. My comments aren't meant to offend, I just have a shitty sense of humor =).
Hmmm....I see some PB & J in my immediate future....
Song of the day: "Pachuca Sunrise" Minus the Bear (I couldn't give this up either.)
