Make yourself at home

Not too long ago, I asked tall cute engineering guy what his office/desk/cubicle looked like. He said his was plain...no photos, nothing nostalgic. It got me thinking...(random, I know)...

In one respect, I think this might be the smart way to go, actually. Especially if you're a daydreamer like myself. I find it hard to stay focused on any one thing for too long (what do they call that again? Oh, that's right...ADD.). At any point when I'm online I probably have about ten windows open with about 5 tabs on each of them. So, I suppose that keeping everything blank around me would help with distraction....

....but where's the fun in that? =)

Now, what was I talking about? (Soo guilty of using this phrase constantly...BECAUSE IT'S TRUE. I lose my train of thought constantly.)

Oh, that's right, my workspace.

Personally, on the other hand, not related to distractions, I have to give myself some credit for being better at nesting here in Seattle. I was never really good at it in Phoenix, both when it came to my apartment, as well as my desk at work. If you take a look at my little cube now, this is what you see:

1.) Indianapolis Colts daily desk calendar
2.) Water (gotta keep drinking for all that hot yoga)
3.) Left pens (as in, NOT STOLEN...people just have a tendency to leave them at my desk)
4.) Lipton Cup-a-Soup (it tastes like egg drop soup...yum!)
5.) Leftover George Carlin desk calendar quotes from 2009 that I read from time to time
6.) A post-it with upcoming live shows I might want to go see
7.) Photos of many of my friends and my horse (and my horse's friends in some cases!)
8.) Thank you notes I've received (they show up every now and again)
9.) Cereal bowl (I eat oatmeal almost every morning)
10.) Cell phone

10.) MORE photos
11.) Ticket stubs from every show, sporting event, or play that I've been to since moving here
12.) Coffee mug (for my chai)
13.) Earphones (if I didn't listen to music all day, I would go BONKERS)
14.) Calculator, for obvious reasons
15.) Hand sanitizer

And last but not least:

16.) Purdue Pete
17.) A stuffed horse (a friend got this for me when I was missing my horse while he was still in Indiana and I was in Arizona, so it has a name tag on it that reads "Shy Guy")
18.) Oh, right...and a post-it reminding me to DRINK MORE WATER! (Reference #2)

Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Maybe a little distracting, but I feel like something is missing....hmmmmmm. A jar of peanut butter would be nice. Maybe some sea monkeys? (A friend of mine had some of those at her desk once....they died.) A fish? Naw. Too much work, considering the only thing I seem to be able to keep alive is a little bamboo.

I truly welcome any other ideas. What do you have at your desk (if you have a desk)?

Song of the day: "Fog" Mason Proper (cause it's the first song I heard online today, and it's a good one!)
