Flashback

It's been a week of music for this lady. GOOD music (seriously stressing the GOOD there) makes time go by more quickly. And, since I'm super excited to be headed home to Indiana to see my family this weekend, quicker is necessary.

Well, you can imagine my disappointment when I hopped in my truck last night and my iPod was dead. Anytime that I have to resort to the radio can be sheer torture, so I opted to sift through my CD's to remedy the situation. You see, I have a six-disc changer in my truck, but I rarely use it, so it's had the same six CD's in there for heaven knows how long. I can even list off what they were for Chrissakes:

1.) Johnny Cash
2.) Miranda Lambert
3.) Temper Trap
4.) Shiny Toy Guns
5.) Bloc Party
6.) The Shins

None of which are bad, by any means, but if you listen to all of them long enough, a change is certainly needed.

So, I decided that it was time to hit up the other end of the spectrum. I pulled out the oldest CD case that I had in my truck and basically threw in six un-marked burnt CD's. I knew these were from my college years, as that was my big-time CD-burning phase. I truly had no idea what I was in for.

As I pulled onto the 520 (headed out to ride the pony on the east side of course) this very song came on...and I literally busted out laughing:

Sigh....memories.

Care for a mental picture of my reminiscing?

The year: 2002
The school: Purdue University
The occasion: girlie pre-partying/primping for a frat party (oh, yes...I did attend many a frat party in my younger under-age days)

Enrique was hot then. Seriously...the guy had like three amazing pop songs out in a row. And my girlfriends and I were so sick for these guilty-pleasure pop masterpieces. These were the days back when I was 120 lbs, bold, and completely carefree. I miss those days.

And the clothes we would wear. Wow. I am pretty sure at one point I had a shirt that was the equivalent size of a handkerchief. Hey, it covered the necessities, what more can I say ;).

And the parties! You seriously never knew what the night had in store for you. We always had a whole crew that headed out...about four or five girls together. To get in to frat parties at Purdue you have to be on "THE LIST" and be female of course...guys don't really stand much of a chance of getting in. The drinks consisted of the cheapest beer ever (bring on the Keystone Light) and some sort of jungle juice-type concoction. We would hang in our frat boy-friends' rooms and play drinking games like 3-Man and Kings and do jello shots. And of course for the end of the night, it was always time for some booty-shaking. Last but not least there was the inevitable trip to Triple XXX (aka Tri Chi...and no it's not a strip club! It's a diner!) for late night/early morning breakfast.

I could go on and on with funny college stories, but I'll save those for a later date. In the meantime, at least I have some old music to keep me company on the road =).

(Other) song of the day: "Blurry" Puddle of Mudd (one of my favorites from 2002....seriously)
