Those girls out there that are saying this is their favorite novel...they must either be really dull, OR THEY HAVE NEVER READ THE DAMN THING.
I mean, I can sum up the story in one post quite easily.
HERE BE THE SPOILERS:
There's this chick, Anna Karenina, who is married to this Russian politician.
They have a kid.
She thinks she's happy, until she meets this other count guy.
They have an affair.
Her husband wants to divorce her, she doesn't want a divorce.
She takes off with the count and lives in sin for years.
They have a child.
Most of society shuns her.
She decides she wants a divorce.
Her husband won't give her one.
She becomes totally paranoid that the count is cheating on her.
She throws herself in front of a bus and dies.
THE END
Pretty fucking pathetic if you ask me.
As far as Tolstoy's writing style goes...it's very Russian, which I normally like, but for whatever reason, this novel did not spark me as particularly gripping whatsoever. If nothing else, I can say that I did read it I suppose.
Next on the list: World Without End by Ken Follett.
I've already read Pillars of the Earth and loved it, so this should satisfy me for a while I hope!
Song of the day: "End Of A Spark" Tokyo Police Club
