I'm blind!

It's been an interesting morning. I had to make an emergency run home from work mid-morning....because my contact split in half, while it was in my eye.

For those of you out there that have contacts, I can almost assure that if this hasn't happened to you yet, it shall happen to you eventually. This is not the first time around for me, but somehow it doesn't get less irritating or painful the more frequently it occurs.

This occurrence makes me ponder getting "the surgery," as I like to call it. I've heard both good and bad reviews as far as results are concerned. A good friend of mine said that it's an amazing feeling to wake up and have a clear view of the world without glasses or contacts.

I always get strayed away from "the surgery" though. Why, you might ask? Well, let me give you a little bit of background information.

I've had issues with my vision since second grade. Luckily, I had a very competent 2nd grade teacher. She was noticing that my math grade was beginning to slip lower and lower. Being the model student I was back in those days, she obviously knew something was wrong....OBVIOUSLY ;). Well, she started to go through my papers, and noticed that I was answering the problems on my paper correctly, meaning I had done the math correctly. The difference was that I was copying the wrong problems from the chalkboard! When the problem would be 19x2, I would copy it as 10x2, or something similar. Damn blurry chalkboard!

So, off to my first optometrist appointment. Yup...nearsighted. I picked out my first pair of glasses. They were bright red plastic and very large on my small head! I remember my family and friends teasing me...they called me Sally Jessy Raphael. Assholes....I'll remember that!

I went through a couple more dorky pairs over the next couple years. Then, 5th grade hit, the year was 1993, and contacts were finally becoming more popular and a little less expensive. I was so tired of my glasses, and talked my mother into letting me give them a whirl. And, that's all she wrote, kids...I've never turned back.

It's as much a part of my morning routine as brushing my teeth. It's really no big deal. So, I come back to this conclusion....IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. Hell, I can put my contacts in without flinching, without a mirror, you name it. I even experiment with colors now and then.

Fuck "the surgery"....I'm fine without it. (Watch me come back to this argument again at some point....it's inevitable.)

Song of the day: "Daylight Robbery" Imogen Heap (cause I can't wait for her new album to come out next week)
