I spent the weekend watching Season 3 on DVD, and fell in love with the guy all over again. He's not nearly as handsome as the guy from Weeds, but something about how sweet and protective Dexter is just gets to me. He battles with his own demons, but somehow always ends up doing the right thing when it comes to his relationship with Rita and her kids.
On a side note, Dexter's sister in this show, Debra, was my initial inspiration to get in shape. In the previous seasons, she's battled her demons and her stress by taking to the treadmill, the gym, kickboxing, running, etc. In the show she also has a pretty foul mouth (like me!) and she gets to kick bad guys' asses. SHE'S MY IDOL.
I did a whole lot of nothing this weekend, my intention being to save money. So, this meant more of the above (cheap DVD rentals), working out, and reading. I started on a new book a couple days ago: Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange.
I've noticed a trend lately...vampires, zombies, Pride & Prejudice...WHAT IS IT WITH OUR NEED TO CORRUPT THIS FUCKING WONDERFUL LOVE STORY?
Or the bigger question, which makes reference to both Dexter and the book....WHAT IS IT WITH OUR NEED TO MAKE MEN INTO MONSTERS?
In my opinion, everyone has that little freak flag that they fly, whether discreetly or non-discreetly. As women, we see these flags when we meet guys...sometimes we see it right away, and sometimes we see it down the road. I could make a LONG list of the random, crazy, awkward shit I've encountered in the men that I've dated, but it really doesn't serve a purpose, aside from the embarrassment that these were men that I actually wasted time on.
A question I have, though...are freak flags always a bad thing? Somewhere down the line is there going to be some weird quirk that I really like in a guy? I find it hard to believe that I will ever settle for some normal, run-of-the-mill Joe Schmoe, but how freaky is too freaky?
Song of the day: "Thriller" Michael Jackson (FREAKY!)
