Maintenance guy....BUSTED

It was an interesting Tuesday evening at my apartment complex this week.

A neighbor friend of mine (she lives on the floor below me and our dogs play together at the park behind the complex regularly) texted me during the day saying that she had a craving for some good Mexican food and a couple margaritas. My evening was free, so, hell yes, I was in for some good Mexican....since it is really hard to find in Seattle, if you know what I mean. Since moving I've basically had to trade in Mexican for Vietnamese. Fair enough trade, but I miss the good spicy Mexican happiness that was so easy to obtain in Phoenix.

Well, after bugging my Seattle-ite friends via text for a good Mexican munchie spot, my friend and I settled on a little spot in Capitol Hill called El Gallito. Very good food, margaritas were decent...I've definitely had better, but it will suffice to say I'm satisfied for now.

We made it back to our neighborhood around 8:30 p.m., parked in the garage under the building, and hopped in the elevator to head up to our respective floors. When we stepped into the elevator, our maintenance man was in there as well. What we weren't prepared for was for him to be completely fucking stoned out of his mind. This guy's pupils were the size of frisbees. In the course of the elevator ride, he ramblingly told us about the new iPod Touch he had in his possession (physically...he was holding it in the elevator).

I said goodbye to my friend, and proceeded up to my floor...please note...maintenance man also lives on my floor.

I wound down by watching some tv and tidying up the apartment. As is my usual nightly ritual, I get comfy in my pj's for the night before taking my dog for his last bathroom break of the day. Well, I get Turner-dog on his leash and grab my keys...I go to turn around the corner and head for the elevator...low and behold, there stand FOUR POLICE OFFICERS extracting maintenance man from his apartment. They glance my way, I wave, and then promptly head the back direction so I don't disrupt whatever is going on.

It was a short bathroom break for Turner, and as we headed back in, the officers and maintenance man were in the lobby, this time along with our property manager filling out paperwork (which I assume is a police report of some sort). My first guesses were drugs or stealing money from the management there somehow. Both of which seemed very surprising, as everyone I meet in our complex seems to be pretty grounded and professional...just goes to show, you can't judge a book by it's cover I suppose.

The next day when I got home from work, there was a notice on each apartment door. Maintenance man had been arrested for stealing...STEALING FROM RESIDENTS' APARTMENTS! MAINTENANCE MAN.....FUCKING BUSTED. As a precautionary measure, the management put in a plan to change ALL of the locks on our units and the building doors...since the guy was a maintenance man, he had a master key, and who knows if he made a frickin duplicate.

After seeing this, my first thought was...I'm glad I have Turner at home when I'm not around. He hates intruders so much, whether I like them or not. Whenever I put in maintenance requests in the past, I always asked that I be at home when they were completed, because my dog isn't crated and I don't want him to attack anyone! Not that I have anything that would be that valuable or worth stealing, but still! And, even when I am there, he still growls and barks loudly, so maintenance man must have known better.

Yesterday I stopped by the office to inform our property manager that my friend and I had seen maintenance man in the elevator a couple hours prior to his arrest, and that he was carrying a new iPod Touch. What did they tell me? That the iPod Touch was one of the items that was stolen from a resident! Seriously...how stupid could this guy be?! Like no one could figure out who had access to steal these things. Dude, "this is drugs....this is your brain on drugs." Fucking idiot. Glad he's gone though, obviously.

Pain in the ass for me though. I had to lock Turner up in my room all day today so they can change my locks without getting attacked =). And I have to pick up new keys this evening for both the apartment and my building. Oh...and to add to that, I have a fucking maintenance request I need to put in.
