Just breathe

You know that dream that people have...the one where they're falling from the sky (presumably to their deaths)?

I've never had that dream before....until this morning. Except that my dream was ten times worse than what I would consider the normal "falling dream." Not meaning that I had the dream ten times, but that it was ten-fold in terms of terror. Talk about a shitty way to start the day. I guess I should put on my "it can only get better from here today" hat and try to be optimistic.

Why do I always have nightmares? I mean every once in a great while I have a funny dream, but for the most part they are usually just freaking tragic.

So, you want to hear about the dream? Well too bad if you don't, because I'm going to tell you anyway.

I was on a helicopter, over the ocean somewhere, I'm assuming doing something scenic, and all of a sudden the helicopter was crashing...headed straight down for the water (obviously). And like most "falling dreams," I woke up before hitting bottom. But Jesus H. Christ, I honestly FELT what I can only imagine it feels like to be completely terrorized and be flung to the earth at warp speed. Like my guts were being ripped out and I couldn't breathe...and then all of a sudden I'm awake, sweating, and gasping for breath like I had just finished a damn marathon.

Talk about scary. I may never ride in a helicopter because of this dream. Shit. It's still making me a tad nauseous.

So, I got curious today and decided that I wanted to try to understand what the dream actually means. A coworker of mine is obsessed with this one particular dream site's dream dictionary, so I decided to give it a whirl. Here is what it reads for airplane crash (helicopter wasn't an option, so I went for the next best/worst thing):

To dream that a plane crashes, suggests that you have set overly high and unrealistic goals for yourself. Your goals may be too high and are impossible to realize. You are in danger of having it come crashing down. Alternatively, your lack of confidence, self-defeating attitude and self-doubt toward the goals you have set for yourself is represented by the crashing airplane; you do not believe in your ability to attain those goals. Loss of power and uncertainty in achieving your goals are also signified.

This does kind of make sense for me...I am a perfectionist at times. But apparently I need to be a little more confident. I can work on that, I think =).

Here's hoping for no more crashing nightmares. Freaky.
