If there's one thing I've learned over the years of going away to college, moving across the country, then moving away again, it's that the people in your life that truly care about you (and are worth keeping as friends) will always be there.
And you know what, I have to say that sometimes it's just nice to be remembered. Some people may say that social media is a curse, but it is also a blessing. I'm not much of a talking-on-the-phone person, so if it wasn't for the ability to text, email, Twitter, or Facebook everyone, who knows how many people I would be able to keep in touch with! Not NEAR as many. And of course there are some friends of mine that are also faithful readers of my lovely blog here. I am still amazed at the number of people that actually read this and where they all come from. It's nothing compared to so many other sites, of course, but it makes me feel good inside just the same =).
Anyway, enough of that deep thought bullshit...onto the little story that is the other reason for this post. To build a little back story, I will have to go back to my last few months working my previous job in Phoenix. I cannot lie...I was a DISGRUNTLED employee. I won't go into specifics, all I knew is that something needed to change. When you wake up every single day loathing to go into work, that should be your sign to get the hell out....SO I DID.
But if there is one thing I can say about my old job, it's that I worked with some highly entertaining colleagues. They were probably the only part of the job that were keeping me going for my last two months there at least. Another confession, I'm pretty sure we made fun of just about everyone else in the office at one point or another, but it was all. harmless. fun. I swear.
Anyway, at some point or another most of us adapted call signs (kinda like Top Gun...we were badass like that). And to tell you the truth, I can't for-the-life-of-me remember what MINE was, but I can remember a few of my coworkers'. Lucky enough for me, in those close quarters of cubicle hell, I found that one of my colleagues, call sign "Mittens", shared an affection for GOOD music. I couldn't tell you what got us on the topic of mix-tapes one day, but we stirred over what went into making a good mix (aka playlist). He went to the extreme of putting his own together and burning CD's for us all. The first mix was pretty damn good (and I will say so myself because there was a song or two on there courtesy of moi!).
So, when Mittens informed me a couple weeks ago that he was trying to "interoffice" something to me from Phoenix to Seattle, I had no idea that it was going to be his latest mix: Communist Pigeon Records Vol. 63 1/3: Spring Mix. (I need to get the back story on this whole "Communist Pigeon" thing...) It was a wonderful playlist that I enjoyed listening to immensely, and I was once again proud to have been able to contribute to Mittens' musical library.
The entire point of this small story is that it's nice to be thought of. To be remembered. Hopefully this helps to repay the favor =).
Song of the day: "July Flame" Laura Veirs (a new discovery to pass along to my pal)
